Non architecture

We are forever looking back to be inspired, from everyday objects to architecture, theres always a hint of the past in what we do. Although commercial architecture has come on leaps and bounds over the last 30 years with architects such as Zaha Hadid and Peter Eisenman embracing the new, while not  forgetting the mistakes made in past... Why haven't we applied these rules to residential architecture?

Companies such as Taylor Wimpey are forever designing / constructing prison like estates, without any thought to the way people live their lives? And are demanding top dollar to buy a piece of thoughtless non architecture. We all have different ideas about the ideal house, ideal surroundings yet we're still having to compromise on good design when buying a modern new build house? Planners still insist on houses having loft space, which are nothing more than a waste of space, storage should be provided within the living areas, a slight angled roof would do nicely.

Mies van der Rohe must be turning in his grave, He created the blue print of form over function yet he still managed to create eye catching, functional architecture. We keep hearing that there's not enough houses for the current population of the UK, but thats no excuse for creating these thoughtless pieces of non architecture.
